The youngest land of Italy - 2017 MAB Youth Forum 2017

Moving by boat and bicycle is recommended to touch the most recent landforms and fully understand the evolution of the Po Delta. This excursion proposes different means of transport: canoeing, boating, walking and cycling, in order to precisely reaching those places that highlight the different transition environments: lagoons, fishing valleys and paddy fields, and had always marked the evolution of this area where the sea, in a few centuries, has become earth. The naturalistic guides that will accompany the groups will introduce the economy, traditions and nature of this young land.

Parallel Workshops – First Round

The workshops will address the question "how can young people be more effectively involved in MAB programme and in the Biosphere Reserves’ life?"
The series of parallel workshops to be held on 19 and 21 September will be moderated by appointed facilitators. During this first day, participants will be introduced to the workshops’ methodology and phases, and to their roles in it. Goals and expectations will be set for both, participants and facilitators, and a clear dialogue will be launched.
The 6 groups will be divided in subgroups, mixing the various categories of stakeholders (study/research, civil society, livelihood), and asked to express their opinion in order to help define a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) analysis for the MAB Programme, referred in particular to the involvement of youth in the Programme, the Biosphere Reserves' network and every single Reserve.

The National Archaeological Museum of Adria

The National Archaeological Museum of Adria gathers exhibits from Adria and Basso Polesine, the area that in the ancient times used to be the centre of contacts between the Mediterranean world, Northern Italy and the Central European Culture. The heart of the exhibition is the Bocchi collection, founded between the 18th and the 19th century, including some bronze valuables, a vast collection of Attica’s ceramics with black and red figures, works of most famous painters and an extraordinary collection of glass from the Roman Age. www.beniculturali.it

Ahmed Mansoor #freeAhmed

March 2017 was a dismal month for human rights in the United Arab Emirates. Two months later the situation has not improved. I want to tell in this post the stories of three human rights defenders from the United Arab Emirates: Ahmed Mansoor, Dr. Nasser bin-Ghaith and Osama al-Najjar and what happened to them in the previous months. The secretariat of the MAB Programme and the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe are proud to announce the organization of the 2017 MAB YOUTH FORUM - committed to sustainable Development, to be held in the Po Delta Biosphere Reserve, Italy, on 18‐23 September 2017. Young people are the future of Biosphere reserves and must be given a voice in shaping their territory and defining their engagement in the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme of UNESCO. The MAB Secretariat considers, therefore, the need to offer, in collaboration with the Regional Bureau located in Venice, an opportunity for young people who care about the special territories in which they live in to become active in the MAB Programme and to contribute to
the sustainable development of their communities, in line with the Lima Action Plan. This initiative, announced for the first time during the 4th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves in Lima, Peru, has been welcomed by a standing ovation!

Humans are as extensive as the universe and are comprised of infinite parts

The founder of a mystical, New Age version of Shiite Islam was sentenced to death by an Iranian court after losing an appeal, his lawyer said on Monday.

However, the religious mystic, Mohammad Ali Taheri, who was convicted on charges of founding a cult, is entitled to another appeal, the lawyer, Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabaei, said. An earlier death sentence for blasphemy against the 61-year old Mr. Taheri was overturned in 2014 by an appeals court.

In recent weeks, dozens of Mr. Taheri’s followers have been arrested across the country, especially around the central Iranian city of Isfahan.

But opponents of the spiritual leader say his conviction has nothing to do with proselytizing for a cult, saying he has had “illegitimate” sexual relations with women.“He has committed sodomy,” said Hamidreza Taraghi, a hard-line political analyst. Sodomy, if testified to by at least four separate witnesses, also carries the death sentence in Iran. His followers deny the accusations. Continue

What does DiEM25 propose to do over the next two years, leading to the European elections of 2019, and beyond? - Lorenzo Marsili

The weekend before the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, delivers his official ‘State of the Union’ speech in Strasbourg, DiEM25 will be in Brussels, at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, to open the lid on the real state of our European Union.
In a unique two-hour event, bringing together politicians and academics, artists and activists, three pressing questions will be addressed:
  • “What is the state of play across Europe today?”
  • “What should Europeanists do in response to the real state of our Union?”
  • “What does DiEM25 propose to do over the next two years, leading to the European elections of 2019, and beyond?”
DiEM25 is working 24/7 to provide awareness, launch campaigns and produce policies to bring about the reforms the EU needs to survive.
We are against the institutions’ business-as-usual: patching up the current arrangement and extending the EU’s agony with “a Europe of different speeds” based on an unjust, unworkable status-quo. Their blueprint, which Commission President Juncker champions, is one that will only fuel the current process of European disintegration and shred the ideals for a common space of peace, prosperity and humanism in our continent.
The “Real State of the Union” rejects that there is no alternative to this path and will offer proposals to resolve the conceptual and structural flaws plaguing the EU.

The event will take place at the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, with DiEM25 co-founders Yanis Varoufakis and Srećko Horvat, and many others leading activists.

Guillermo Del Toro - The Shape of Water

Guillermo Del Toro
